Infrequently extremely ludicrous, the film is sabotaged by overemphatic “comedy” performing, unsympathetic characters, and a sitcom approach. Writer-director David co-created Seinfeld, which clarifies both the excellent and the poor stuff here. Cast includes Steven Weber, Craig Bierko, Matt Keeslar, Karen Sillas, Robyn Peterman, Viola Harris, and Jennifer Leigh Warren. (92 minutes, 1998)

Young Guns: The year is 1878 and cattleman John Tunstell is trying to make a go of it. Powerful businessman Lawrence Murphy tries to push him out of the business. When that doesn’t work, he murders the cattle rancher. Billy the Kid, and the other young men who worked for the rancher set out to settle the score.

Adventure: Gable’s back, Garson’s got him. but they both sink in cumbersome comedy of seagoing roustabout and a modest librarian. Not even gusty Blondell could spare it from flopping. Clark Gable, Greer Garson, Joan Blondell, Thomas Mitchell, Tom Tully, John Qualen, and Richard Haydn head the cast. (1945 125minutes)

Alien Nation: Aliens are coming to Earth. It is an organized integration. With the aliens here, a new form of racism is building. The first alien policeman must work through this racism with his partner. They then gain respect for each other and set out to battle crime in the underworld of the alien world.

Curse of the Flyer: Carole Gray is a young patient that has escaped from an insane asylum and ends up with the Delambre family, who are still doggedly trying to make their teleportation device work. Cast Brian Donlevy, Carole Gray, George Baker, Michael Grabam, Jeremy Wilkins, Charles Carson, and Burt Kwouk. (86 minutes, 1965)

Spungen: Director Cox accomplishes a masterful level of a documentary-reality. He then laces it with metaphorical fantasy icons, with striking outcomes. At the center of the film are two incredible behaviors, by Goldman and Webb, who don’t appear to be operating at all: They are Sid and Nancy. The movie is a downer, to be certain, however captivating. (105 minutes, 1969)
